Best approach to filtering MTP devices RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I need to support filtering of MTP/PTP devices, i.e. allow, block, read-only etc. so how should I go about this?  My initial thought was as a UMDF upper filter driver but this article:

    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14359871/umdf-filter-driver-for-mtp-devices

suggests it doesn't work.  Anyone implemented this?

    Thanks for the help.

  • This is not a UMDF problem as much as it is a device specific filter problem.   You may be able to get a device specific filter to work as standalone but this is not well documented.  The other approach is to make a class filter for the device and have the driver be smart enough to not do anything for devices you do not care about.   Over the years, I've taken the later approach, since the install is easier.
