  • Even though the Select Data dialog will display the range address, the chart should use the definition of the name. You can verify this by changing the definition of the name - the chart should change with it.

  • Hi Hans,

This is what I tried - I hope it is what you meant.

I changed the chart to point to the named range. The chart accepted the name , but that 'translated' it back to the actual address of the range. I then updated the named range to add some more cells to it , in the hope that the chart would expand to included the additional data but unfortunately it did not.

The data range within the chart does not display the name simply the range address.

    Is this what you meant?

    I am using Excel 2013.

    thanks for your help.

  • You'll have to define a named range for the X-values, and for the Y-values of each of the chart series:

In 1. and 2. you see that the X-values and Y-values have been set to a named range.

In 3. you see the chart, and the definition of the named ranges. The named ranges consist of 3 cells each.

In 4. the definition of the named ranges has been changed - they now consist of 5 cells each, and the chart has automatically been adjusted.
