Automatically login to VPN RRS feed

  • Question

  • At university I first have to log in to a VPN before I can use the Internet via W-Lan. Unfortunately I have to do that manually every time I pull up my machine from sleep. The only desctriptions I found for to make the computer automatically connect to a VPN involved quite a bit of advanced stuff.

So my question: Is there an easy option to tell a VPN to automatically connect once an internet-connection has been made (maybe even location based...)? Will there be in Windows 8?

  • There is a feature since Windows 7, known as DirectAccess and with that you just have to connect to internet and then you could use interanet resources. However, this feature must be enable and configure by your IT Department. It is best that contact your University IT team and ask them this question since in order to be able to login VPN Automatically, admin should permit it and also it depend on software that you use as VPN (if any) or configuration in your Windows VPN itself.
