Microsoft Sql Server, error: 10061 or Port Problems RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm pulling my hair out on this one.

Yesterday, a server registration that has been working for months in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio is now giving me AND ONLY ME the "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." message.  We did a little research, followed all of the advice we found online, and all of our settings seemed right.  Out of desparation, we added the port that IP/All displayed in the server registration worked.  Now, I thought the the SQL Browser (or Agent, I forget) provided the port to which a process that was connecting needed to connect.  No one changed any Sql Server or any other settings for that matter any time recently.  Can someone shed some light on this for me?
