DCOM , LaunchPermissions... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there.

What changes the LaunchPermissions registry key?  The problem we are facing is that the LaunchPermissions Key we were using in XP does not seem to work in Vista, and is resulting in our DCOM server not communicating.  When we run DCOMCnfg and then switch to default, it does work.  Now, the ironic thing is, when we switch BACK to the previous settings using DCOMCnfg , the service STILL works.

This indicates to me that the DACL has changed and how we were writing it is no longer effective.

So where are some documents on this so that I can change it.  Also, backward compatibility is required here, so the changes cannot break XP/NT/etc

  • DCOMCfg, despite being at face value, an application that views the current COM configurations, in actual fact tries to "correct" the COM configurations it sees, often breaking aqpplications.  Another good job from Microsoft!
