Search returning a blank page on public website RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have set up a public SharePoint site. However Search returns a blank page for both anonymous users and authenticated users. For the authenticated users it returns a descent search results page.

It does't show any content, not even "No results was found for <keyword>" text.

The Search works on the server (remote desktop) fine.

The crawl crawls the default zone.

Anonymous access permission is set to the entire web site.

I'm thinkin about a URL conflict somewhere when the site was published but I don't know where. Many configurations was made to get the site public.

    What could be the fix?

  • Hi Freedomic,

Please try to use Fiddler to monitor the search result page load process, which would be helpful to you to find the reason of the issue.

How did you create public site? Make sure your configuration is correct.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Freedomic,

You said “Search returns a blank page for both anonymous users and authenticated users.” and “For the authenticated users it returns a descent search results page.”, which is correct description for authenticated users?

Could you provide a screenshot about search result page?

Did you search in a search center? If yes, please check if the URL of search result page is correct in Site Settings > Search Settings under Search section.

Most search results are items in libraries and lists. Please select Lists and Libraries option for anonymous access and test.

Please do the following things to try to resolve the issue.

    1. Deactivate the “Limited-access user permission lockdown mode” feature and re-activate the feature.

    2. Reset search index and do a full crawl

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Please check public URL and AAM for the site and make sure that the start address is present in content source for that web application under search service application. Also run a full crawl and revisit your site. Also check log files for better troubleshooting.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks.

Clarfication: In Internal network Search results are displaying for authenticated users. On the public site Search results page is empty for anonymous and authenticated users. It's empty so that there are no web part texts visible, not even "No results was found" text. So it's blank. Only the UI is around the blank search results.

We have tried to deactivate "Limited-access user permission lockdown mode", but it didn't help.
