Do we get database mirroring impacted due to Day Light Saving? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

Do we get any impact on Database Mirroring or SQL agent job due to changes on day light saving time?

Because, we configured database mirroring in our production environment in spain.

Below is spain day light saving start and end time for 2014.

    Year      Start Date  End Date

    1) Could anyone clarify me, will there be any issues in SQL server 2008 Mirroring because of Daylight Time saving ?? Also, will there be any impact on Tlog backup scheduled jobs which will be running in 15 Minutes interval.?

    2) Do i need to reschedule my mirroring & scheduled jobs on Daylight saving days?? Is there manual(DBA) Intervention needed on these days??

This will be helpful for us if anyone guide us in advance and thankful to you as well.

  • Thanks for the reply. Your explanation is enough for me now.

I have a general question after your note above, How DB mirroring will work without sql agent for automated log movement ?

Please read below article on Mirroring.SQL agent is used in Log shipping to take transaction log backups automatically and then move them to secondary server .In mirroring log records generated due to transaction  are transferred through network and communication happens through endpoints.

  • Even-though,  its an t-log movement and it requires sql agent help for automated work(log movement).

So,  SQL agent play the role based on system clock timing. Obviously, sql agent schedule will get impacted based on system clock changes(due to day light saving time change).

So, my question is related with feasible way of sql agent get impacted due to this day light saving time changes on server level.

Any idea?. Please post your comment if so.

    Hello,

First SQL agent has no role is mirroring .

SQL agent is built in such a way that it can handle day light saving so rest assured.
