IIS Feature Requirement Warning on installation SQL server 2005 Developer edition RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I've tried to installed sql server 2005 developer edition on windows vista home premium but failed many times, almost giving up.
I've installed and turned on all the features of IIS 7.0 but it still failed and I tried to test IIS 7  by running the local host and received this error " HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error."

I even ran the windows update SP1 for Vista and MDAC 2.8 SP1

I really appreciate any comments and help.

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features.  Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.

  • I think if you need to install Reporting Services then IIS is required else it is not required I believe......as Phil says for installing sql server it is'nt required

  • Moved to the "Getting starting with SQL Server" forum, though it probably doesn't belong here either.

You don't need IIS to install SQL Server.  That's why it's a warning, not an error.

  • Has this thread been closed? I've got the same problem, turned on every feature of IIS 7.0 that comes with Vista and every time I run SQLSERVER 2005 installation file it says IIS should be ON in order to install Reporting Services. Any help will be appreciated.

  • Found this kb article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201 about what exact IIS components must be enabled to install SQL SERVER 2005 with all features on. Worked for me! Thanks

  • Hi.  I have referred to the kb article, and switched on the IIS components as specified, however, it is still giving me the IIS Feature Requirement error.  I'm using Vista Home Premium, and trying to install SQL 2005 Developer.

Has anyone managed to get around this problem ?

  • Double check the required IIS components.

For instance, did you add Security -> Windows Authentication (in Turn on/off Windows Features)?

    See

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201/en-us

    http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/0d35e92b-ddb7-4423-b1e5-df550e25713b1033.mspx

One cause of the symptom named by this thread is basically in how the setup (sys config. checker) detects IIS features, as described here:

    http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1298643&SiteID=17

According to the docs (bol), SSRS can work with several of the authentication methods in IIS (e.g. Basic). The Basic Authentication provider for IIS is available in Vista hp edition. But is there some way to "persuade" the configuration checker and/or the setup to make Reporting Services option to show up? Is there perhaps a manual override with the command line setup.exe?

  • Hi Guys!

Even I was facing a problem of a similar nature. It seems In windows Vista Home Premium the windows authentication feature doesn’t exists (in IIS->Security->..) whereas for installing sql server 2005 reporting services this feature needs to be enabled. Check the below two links to get more information. Hope this would help.

    http://www.developersdex.com/sql/message.asp?p=1870&r=6070031

    http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/0d35e92b-ddb7-4423-b1e5-df550e25713b1033.mspx?mfr=true

I was able to install SQL reporting services on Vista business (on my personal laptop).. but my clients machine had Vista Home premium, and so was not able to install the reporting service feature of SQL server.

If anyone knows a way around it it would be great!

    regards

  • I have Vista Ultimate x64, I have done all the available updates as far as I know. The reason I say that is when I checked windows update it told me I was done. When I went into Office 2007 and Visual Studio 2008 seperately, each told me I had updates to do. Very frustrating, On XP all updates were found and installed.

Being I believe all updates are now installed.

I have am installing SQL 2005 Developer Edition. Not only am I getting the same error and the above fixed did not help. I am also getting ASP .Net Version Registration Required.

    Later:

I am finding various white pages refering to .net 1.1, 2.0 32 or 64 bit processing etc.

What are the advantages to 32 bit .net vs 64 bit.

  • I found a solution for this particular problem. Vista Home premium version doesn't have windows authentication in security tab in IIS 7. so vista home premium won't support installing Sql server 2005 reporting services.

  • 1) Install IIS as described,
    2) change administrator password, as MS require on default, namely:
7 or greater symbols from 3 of 4 MS symbol groups:
    - A-Z
    - a-z
    - 0-9
    - !_[]$ etc...
    or change policy for password
and allow boot as administrator (prohibited on default)
    3) run setup under administrator. Under command-line, start:
    runas /user:administrator "path-to-setup\setup"

  • Hello,

I believe that you must register IIS towards .Net Framework

Please have a look on this link

    http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3184018&SiteID=1

It's a classical problem when you install IIS after the .Net Framework

    Have a nice day

    1. Add IIS components to Windows install
      • Start…   Settings…   Control Panel…   Add/Remove Programs…
      • Add/Remove Windows Components… Check  “Internet Information Services (IIS)”
Note! Operating System CD maybe required
    Restart PC

  • visit the link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201

    And install needed components.

  • Your Server is not being able to identify IIS Server.

You need to installed IIS web server related components which doesn't get installed by default

for e.g. HTTP Redirection, Static content

Adding these features will resolved this problem
