Can I run "DevCon restart" on a USB device with User Rights (instead of Administrative Rights)? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to be able to restart a USB device from a user account via "DevCon restart".  Is this possible?  I'm told that it can be done if the device security is properly set via an SDDL entry in the device's INF file.

  • No, you can't. Sddl affects who can create a handle, you can't modify the security around pnp operations

  • Thanks, Doron.  Do you know if an app could submit an IOCTL to recycle the device's USB port (IOCTL_USB_HUB_CYCLE_PORT)?
