How to create new project template in project online RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Experts,

We have few project templates defined in our Project online environment. And we have Enterprise Project Types (EPT's) linked to these project templates as well.

We are not sure how these templates are deployed into the project online in the beginning phase of the project.

Now we have a requirement to edit the existing project templates and re-deploy them so that any new project created from the EPT's( with updated project templates) will pick up the changes from the project template.

I am not seeing any option in project online to edit and re deploy the Project templates . Can you guys help me with the process to edit and re deploy the project templates.

  • Hello,

If you open the Project Desktop client connected to the Project Online PWA instance then try the following:

    • File > New then click the "Enterprise" tab
    • Click the project template that you want to edit
    • This will open a new project with the tasks from the selected template
    • Make the changes as required
    • File > Save
    • On the "Save to Project Web App" pop up
    • For the Name - enter the exact same name for the current template if you want to replace / overwrite it or provide a new name if required
    • In the Type option - select Template
    • Click Save
    • If you used the same name - confirm the overwrite
    • That completes that part - the new template is created
    • If you used a new template name - edit each EPT and set the Project template to the newly created one. If you used the same template name, no other steps are required.

    Hope that helps
