How to locate Name Manager detail RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to research developing a Name Manager where-used add-in. Specifically for Excel at this point. How/where can I access the Name Manager detail data? What language(s) would I need to use?

Okay, sorry. I just want to be clear that you can access all names with the Name Manager addin for free.
    FastExcel is a different point.

Back to your 1st question: How access the Name Manager the names?

    Sub Test()
      Dim N As Name

      For Each N In ActiveWorkbook.Names
        Debug.Print N.Name, N.Visible, N.Value, N.RefersTo
      Next
    End Sub

This is basically all. There are a few other properties inside the Name object, documentation is here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vba/excel-vba/articles/name-object-excel?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

    Any questions?

    Andreas.

  • Have a look here at the Name Manager before you start:

  • Yup. I purchased the Name-Manager-Only. Charles and I tried and tried and were unable to get the licensing to work for me. Said it was probably something unexpected in my specific environment. That's the reason for my question here. It's a build-or-buy decision (pun intended) and since I can't buy...

If I'm able to build, it will be strictly for my personal use. I'm not a commercial developer.

    Thanks.

  • I purchased the Name-Manager-Only.

    Purchased?

    http://www.jkp-ads.com/downloadscript.asp?filename=NameManager2007.zip

Unzip into an empty directory, inside there is "Name Manager 2007.xlam", double click to open, look on the right side in the Formulas tab...

    What's missing?

  • What's missing?

    The whereused map.

  • The whereused map.

    I don't understand.

And after I click that button I get a new sheet:

Name RefersToLocal Visible Local name Error External link Relative 3-D Areas Cells UnUsed RefersToRange
asd =Tabelle2!$A$1 WAHR FALSCH FALSCH FALSCH FALSCH FALSCH 1 1 Not checked [Mappe1]Tabelle2!$A$1
qwe =Tabelle1!$A$1 WAHR FALSCH FALSCH FALSCH FALSCH FALSCH 1 1 Not checked [Mappe1]Tabelle1!$A$1

    Sorry, but what's missing?

    Andreas.

  • @Andreas

    Sir,

At one point, when I was using a trial version of fastexcel, I believe I was able to access the fastexcel map. Now, both addins have been uninstalled.

Charles and I and jkp have been through this--more than once. I didn't post here to talk about fastexcel's Name Manager map and I'm not complaining about fastexcel or jkp's version thereof.
