  • Hi kmoxville,

Did you recently upgrade your OS to win 10? if so, some VC++ redistributable dlls are mixed up, It leads to that the VS or some sdk failed install correctly.

In this situation, most community members fix their issue by do a fresh install of win 10.

Hi, i recently reinstalled fresh windows 10 after it failed with BSOD and made C: unrecoverable by standard windows tools. Fresh installation with formating drive C:. Then i installed updates all except KB3156421(cause its failing). Then i tried to install vs with win10 sdk, and it is installing only vs without win10 sdk

Finnaly I managed to overcome the problem. I just subscribed to Insider Preview program. I rebooted my system and then all Win10 SDK components installed succefully.

Thanks all for trying to help

    1. Remove all folders under "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache"

    2. Turn off system restore (temporarily),

    3. Turn off your Antivirus,

    4. ... then reinstall VS2015...

  • Hi kmoxville,

As Almir said, please follow the steps below:

    ·         Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation
    ·         Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site
    ·         Complete or dismiss Windows Update before installation. (and don't forget to turn it on later)

  • I dont have antivirus except the default one Microsoft's

Suggested steps i saw on stackoverflow and already done it. But my system is not up to date and i dont have an option to update it unfortunately. Some of update is crashing my entire system in BSOD(MEMORY_MANAGEMENT) which leads drive C: to unrecoverable state, after which i cant rescue system with standard diagnostic tools shipped with windows, none of chkdsk, sfc, restore points or any other stuff helps. Only fresh installation is working

Thanks for answers anyway, if the updates are critical for visual studio i guess i need to figure out which of the update crashing my system

Anyway the errors which give out installation tool is not very informative, google knows almost nothing about it. There is no way to figure out why the installation process breaks. Just fails silently, it is ridiculous

  • I went through this steps:

    1) Turned off windows defender

    2) Turned off restore points

    3) Cleared PackageCache and Temp folders

    4) Run as administrator

None of that worked. All updates except KB3156421 are applied

As far as i can see it is common problem, a lot of people currently dealing with it and there is no solution for it unfortunately:

  • Almir,

I have spent days, trying to fix these timeout issues!

Your solution worked for me ("disable system restore") and the installer went through fine.

Thank you very very much for your help!
