  • WHy should the Microsoft.NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 not be uninstalled. It shows it is rarely used so why is it needed?

  • Hi steppinree,

    Thanks for your post here.

This depends to your OS version and your apps which depends on it. Could you please share your OS version here?

    .NET 3.5 SP1 is based on .NET 3.0 SP2 and .NET 2.0 SP2

    .NET 3.5 is based on .NET 3.0 SP1 and .NET 2.0 SP1

If you are running on Win 7 SP1(Win 8 the same), you have .NET 3.5 Sp1 installed as a default Windows feature.

It is not allowed to remove it from your OS.

If you are running on Windows Xp, if you do not need .NET 3.5 or .NET 3.0, you can uninstall it from control panel.

But I think lots of apps are based on them. I do not recommend you remove it.

    You can refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework_version_history
