A Case to Bring Back the Back Button RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

The recent Office Developer Tools update Introduced some fantastic functionality like auto complete, but removed the familiar back button at the top left of the screen (for second level screens) and replaced it with a home button. The logic was that the user can use their browser back button.

I'd like to know if there is an easy way to revert back to the old functionality. I think the back button was far more useful, particularly since the HTML client involves a lot of jumping into details screen and then back out to the parent screen etc.

If you watch a user playing with an application built with the HML client, they use the back button all the time.

The browser option is inferior because:

    1. If you install the site as a safari shortcut icon, there is no browser back and forward buttons ( see the image below).

    2. A typical user gets lost when they are in an application without any navigation option to return to the previous screen. They have been almost trained out of using the browser back button because so many web applications warn against it.

  • Oh, plus the back icon looks nicer than the new default home icon, so you're training videos won't look as cool anymore!!
