How to create a new window in Windows 8.1 (WinJS)

Question

How can I create a new window in a Windows 8.1 app using WinJS?

This list of new features available suggests that it is possible: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/bg182890.aspx#one

"A single app can open more than one window at the same time."

To open the new window it looks like I call ApplicationViewSwitcher.tryShowAsStandaloneAsync() however to create the new window to show it looks like I need to call Windows.ApplicationModel.Core.CoreApplication.CreateNewView(). However this last method does not appear to be accessible in the SDK.

So is this not currently possible and if not when will support be added?

Hi Chris,

you're on the right way, I also needed some time to find out that one. The solution is to take a look at the "Multiple Views" sample. The sample is also available in JavaScript here:

Thanks Thomas, I had all the sample apps but didnt think to search for View instead of Page.

So it looks like I needed MSApp.createNewView. Although I had used the MSApp namespace before I didnt realise it was specific to WinJS and appears to be basically a wrapper into a number of core OS methods.
