Access Denied to Application Pages From MySite Web App RRS feed

  • Question

  • Problem:

Loggin to mysite web app with farm or setup account

    1. Site loads
    2. Select > site actions > site settings (or site permissions, etc)
    3. Error Msg: Access Denied

    Things I have verified:

Object User Cache accounts in User Policy of Web app:

    • i:0#.w|adhcscint\spusersuperrdrprod
    • i:0#.w|adhcscint\spsuperuserprod

Script used to set object cache accounts:

    $wa = Get-SPWebApplication -Identity "MySite Host"
    $wa.Properties["portalsuperuseraccount"] = "i:0#.w|adhcscint\spsuperuserprod"
    $wa.Properties["portalsuperreaderaccount"] = "i:0#.w|adhcscint\spusersuperrdrprod"
    $wa.Update()

Accounts / Perms in User Policy for Mysite Host Web App:

    • all authenticated user - full read
    • nt authority\local service - full control
    • spSetup i:0#.w|adhcscint\spsetup - full control
    • spFarm i:0#.w|adhcscint\spfarmprod  - full control

Site Collection Owners for / on mysite web app:

    • spFarm
    • spSetup

The mysite page loads for all users, but when we try to hit ANY application page we get access denied.

Could this be related to file system perms on wfe's?

UPDATE - This is only happening on MySite Host Web App. 3 Other web apps in same farm do not have this issue.. so I don't think it's local file system access to the application pages....

  • UPDATE - I was able to resolve this by deleting the web app, but leaving the content and IIS settings alone, then recreating the web app. I found out another group of admins were installing NewsGator Social Sites to our MySite Web App, therefore, there may have been an issue with the install, which caused this problem.

  • Hello,

In address bar, please check the query string parameter, what is in source query string parameter. From that we can get an idea that exactly for what Access Denied error is coming.

    Thanks! BR, Prasham http://prashamsabadra.blogspot.in/
