  • Windows 7 only runs Virtual PC, which does not run x64 machines, SharePoint 2010 requires X64.

I have had some luch running Hyper-V x64 machines on Windows x64 with Oracle Virtual Box.

  • You could use dual boot and install windows server 2008 as the second boot, then install the hyper-v feature (if your hardware supports x64 and intel virtualization in the processor).

To just run some Hyper-V images on Windows 7, I would use virtual box.  I have 2 hards in my laptop, one boots windows 7 and one boot windows 2008 r2.
