PerformanceCounterCategory.GetCategories() doesn't return all categories RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
When I looked through list of performance categories in the perfmon utility, I found more than 100 categories. But when I tried to use .Net 3.5 library call PerformanceCounterCategory.GetCategories() it returned only some of them (about 88), not all.
Also the perfmon from windows 2003 when connected remotely to Windows 2008 returns less categories than I can see through perfmon from 2008.
For example, Hyper-V Virtual Network Adapter category cannot be accessed using .Net libraries or Windows 2003 perfmon (although Hyper-V Legacy Network Adapter can be) .
Also some counters also can be accessed only with Windows 2008 perfmon.
Could you please tell me how I can get the same list of counter categories that Windows 2008 perfmon displays.
    Thank you a lot,

    Alex
