Config files? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

Im kinda new to the "Settings-file" in Visual studio (8)

I have created a Settings file

with some fields, like Name, ....

I have also give them the scope User, because you can't write values to the scope application.

Now my problem is, I don't where exactly this data is stored?

My program will ask at runtime, to fill in some fields.
I save this fields in the settings.

    I close program

I reopen program, and when i click on a button

I call the data to been shown.

    This works perfect

In my release folder, I have a file called the blabla.exe.config

In there it gives that all the values are blank, so where exactly does he retrieve this data then?

  • The application config file (?.exe.config) contains the default settings for each property.  Any application-level settings are also stored in this file.  For per-user settings the underlying settings provider determines where the information is stored.  The default provider stores the settings in a user.config file.  The exact location (although it should never matter) is dependent upon the application type.  For WinForms it is going to default to a directory under the user's AppData directory.  MSDN discusses this in more detail here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8eyb2ct1.aspx
