Odata Connector via Windows/Basic Authentication RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Team,

Has anyone tried connecting to a sharepoint via odata connector through either windows authentication or basic authentication?
Because every time I am getting the same error:

Failed to create OData connection to RequestUrl Fail to get metadata of odata service, please check if service url and credential is correct. Activity ID: 8eda15f1-7903-4b95-b546-40a466c10075.

    Background:

We are trying to use Odata connector in Data Factory v2 for connecting to a online Sharepoint List(both in the same Tenant).
We are using Authentication type “AAD Service principal with Key” and the other values supplied are in accordance with the Microsoft documentation available.

While creating the linked service we are getting this error :

    “Connection failed
Failed to create OData connection to RequestUrl Activity ID: 07cc9b8a-f7e1-43ac-8c86-ecb608ac2388.”

Unable to create a successful odata creator.

Is it even possible to connect to sharepoint online via AAD Service principal with Key or basic authentication in ADF v2?
We do not want to use Service principal with certificate since it gets access on the entire tenant thereby causing security concerns.

  • Hi Nandan Hegde,

Thank you for reaching out. Currently Sharepoint online is supported by OData linked service only through "AAD Service principal with Cert" authentication type.

As per the latest comment by ADF team on the below GitHub issue, ADF team is working on enabling a new Sharepoint Online List connector to make it easier to copy data from SPO list. I don't have a definite ETA at the moment but it is on the road map. Stay tuned to Azure Updates about further notification on this.

Recent update on GitHub issue: https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/azure-docs/issues/50256

I would recommend you to please up-vote and/or comment on below related feature request feedback thread, which would help to increase the priority of the feature request: Add ability to EASILY load SharePoint online lists

Additional notes: A cert using by OData connector can be created and configured by following the below article, which will guide you to connect the cert to an AAD app for invoking SPO Online with an app only access token.

    Hope the above info helps.
