Kinect for Windows: SDK and Runtime version 1.6 Released

  • We are happy to announce that Kinect for Windows v1.6 is final and released to the public.

Version 1.6 is an in-place update to version 1.0 or 1.5 that is fully compatible. (You should be able to move easily to use v1.6 if you are already using or targeting v1.5 or v1.0.)

    • The launch announcement is on our blog
      • Our website has been updated, including new and updated developer resources:
      • Updated docs which continue to be hosted in MSDN or downloadable for offline use
      • Human Interface Guidelines which helps developers get started with NUI interaction design. We've added a sample in v1.6 called "Basic Interactions-WPF" which shows a concrete example of applying many of the guidelines.
    • Sensors are now available for purchase in China, with more countries coming later this fall.
    • Download the SDK (and Developer Toolkit) here

Thank you all for your interest, enthusiasm, questions, and feedback – your contributions are a key part of making the product great.

Stay tuned… we’re not done yet!  You will continue to see ongoing releases from us as we continue to innovate on top of Kinect.
