CE6 Memory Allocation RRS feed

  • Question

  •  I own a 7" Sylvania netbook, with 128MB RAM and Windows CE 6.0 OS (plus an ARM processor). It has the slider for changing memory allocation between PROGRAM and STORAGE, but it will not move. To get Youtube running on this thing, I need to go from 68MB RAM allocated to running programs to about 130 MB, taking from storage (use an SD card to make up the difference there- easy). Is there a way to unlock the slider or alter the default setting via the Hive Registry files? I've already done some tweaking with Explorer that way, and have successfully added a file to it. I do understand hexadecimal. Thanks!

If there is another way of changing the allocation...that would do nicely, too.

Note: memory cards to add to internal RAM cannot be added with this model.

  • There use to be an API to do it but it was deprecated:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee482768(v=winembedded.60).aspx

As you can see there are two other methods but you must be an OEM to use them.

You can try the API anyways and see if it works on that specific device.

First, thank you for the reply, and I am sorry about the delay- I do not have Internet access where I live, and I've had trouble logging in here.

Could you explain the above in a bit more detail? Please keep in mind that all I have is the netbook, and can only reach things by simply clicking on the files after reaching them; the Hive Key files. I can change the numbers and have added a file, but must know what to do.

    Thank you in advance!
