How to launch an app on an ARM Surface device from a Windows 8 PC ?

    Question

  • I use my custom unit test system and I'm trying to remotely launch an app on a Surface Device from a Windows 8 PC.
I'd like something that will work like the remote debugger of Visual Studio 2012 (which can launch an app on the Surface Device).
I tried remote Powershell but I got errors.

Do anybody known any way to achieve this kind of remote launching ?

  • There isn't a good way to do this. The Visual Studio 2012 debugger does not directly launch the app remotely: it requires the remote debugging tools run on the remote system. The debugger then connects to the remote debugging tools and asks them to launch the app.

  • That's what I thought and why I tried remote Powershell.
My idea was to find "something" on the Surface device that can launch an app.
And then have a way to run this "something" from the PC.

The "something" may be an app : is there a way to launch another app from a first one ?
May I try an app as a "service", running and polling a webservice for commands to launch other apps on the Surface ?
