  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

Currently I am developing custom Visual Studio add-in extension using Visual Studio extension project with WPF (for front end UI) for our controls. Also, I am interesting to develop the same add-in in Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2005 since some of our customer still using the Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2005 . I have googled regarding this developing, but no luck to me for any reference how can I create the Extension project in Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2005. Can you please suggest me how can I create the Visual Studio extension project in Visual Studio 2008 an Visual studio 2005.

    1. How can I create the Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2005 extension project.

    2. Can I use the WPF Xaml code in the Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2005

    Thanks,

  • 1. You can start with a Visual Studio add-in template in VS 2008:

    2. You can use WPF, but with .NET Framework version not higher than 3.5.

  • Hi @sergey,

    Thanks for the update,

I have created the Add-in project in VS2008 as you suggested. I need to show my add-in button when right click on the Solution explorer and Project. I have achieved this on VS2010 and above, using .vsct file. But, I can't find the .vsct file in the created VS2008 project.  How can I achieve this in VS2008. Also, I can't use the Microsoft.CSharp assembly in the 2008 extension project. So, please suggest me how can I use this assembly in VS2008 and VS2005 project.

Is there any help document regarding working on VS2008 and VS2005 Visual Studio extension project. it will be more helpful to me working on this. Also, how can I achieve the same on VS2005.

    Thanks,

    Ganesan R.
