Order of NICs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

does anybody have an idea how Windows does enumerate devices of same type? The trouble in behind is the fear that Windows may tell a NIC as #2 that physically is intended to be first one.

Initially I assumed as they appear on PCI bus (bus/slot number) but in my case the device on Bus 3 Slot 0 hat become the device "...#2", while the other is located on bus 5 Slot 0. Another assumption are the HW ressources settings (memory and/or I/O ranges), they are higher on device "...#2" than the other. An addition assumption is the MAC address.

Thanks in before for any advice,

    Willi K
