Altering a custom tab in excel 2010 RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I have been asked to add a button to the custom tab in excel. I have been told a few pointers

-Rename the excel file as a .zip file, then open this with windows explorer

-Find the "customUI.xml" file and open it

-After adding in a button and then saving the xml file and renaming the .zip file back to the .xls file, open it and view VBA code

    -Create a macro.........

You're not going to like what my question is especially the wording of it but here goes nothing

Is this the right way to go about it? I would have thought you just need to write some VBA code not fiddle with XML.Another thing is I can't view the custom tab when i right click at the top of excel and press "customise the ribbon" - why?

    Thanks
