Does output of tap.exe depend on windows version ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I used tap.exe taken from "Windows Embedded Standard" (XP-SP3) and ran it on a computer booted with Bart-PE.

Then I did it on the same computer this time booted with Windows-PE.

I suspect the output was not the same.

    Is it possible ?

Using the pmq file I created a component and then an image. This image works fine.

When I used the pmq file created under Windows-PE, the first boot agent caused a reset during the PNP stage and after reset the first boot agent started from scratch (not from the point the target was booted). This was an endless loop till I shut down the target.

    Thanks,

    Zvika

  • Indeed. This is normal and well documented.
WinPE can't regonize all devices e.g. enumerated, virtual and so on. PE normal runs on base-drivers.

Best way to get a working base is running normal XP on the device (once), install all drivers and run tap for the upcomming xpe image.

Btw. there are several TAP versions - never investigated if they are all produce the same result.
