Problems After Upgrading Visual Studio 2013 to UPDATE 2; Windows Store, Store Apps Stop Working.

Answers

  • Well you can tell from the number of people using Updater 2 that we don't have a general problem affecting the update. If you've got the event logs, please feel free to share with us. Also, if you update and have the problem again, please open a support case for assistance.

NOTE: If I ask for code, please provide something that I can drop directly into a project and run (including XAML), or an actual application project. I'm trying to help a lot of people, so I don't have time to figure out weird snippets with undefined objects and unknown namespaces.

  • Are there any messages in the event log that might help you understand this? My guess is that there's a license issue.

  • Sure, Please guide me on how to retrieve those messages. I'd really appreciate if that would solve the issue. thanks. About license, I just renewed my Developer License this May, which should go till June I suppose. Thx again

  • Right click Windows Button > Run > eventvwr

Look in the system log and the application log for errors.

If you need immediate help, open a support case.

  • @MattSmall, followed your advice, ended up opening a support case.

Both I and the Support staff judged it right to just System Restore from a certain point before the Upgrade. Which took almost forever, but eventually the Sys. was restored.

Now, back to the same issue, I need to build several Windows 8.1 Mobile/Phone Applications and Update2 is renowned best fit for WIN PHONE APPS.

Although Sys. Restore restored the System to a previous state, that in itself did NOT answer the Question Why the Window Store and all other Apps crashed.

So, am back to the same quandary because am going to be forced to Upgrade V-Studio to Update2 again and the worse part is that I still DO NOT HAVE any IDEA as to why Window Store crashed.

Was is the a Bug within the Update2?...

Does the system require something that was missing before the Upgrade?...

Or instead of Upgrading, does one have to first COMPLETELY UNINSTALL V-Studio 2013  then install Update2 a fresh?...

And Why would the Upgrade affect the core functionalities of Windows Store as a whole?

How do you safely upgrade from V-Studio 2013 Update1 to Update++ without negatively impacting the Windows Store Core Functionalities?

    Thanks again.

  • THANKS A LOT FOR THE REPLIES.

However, am still having the Same Exact problem.

Last time after the System Restore, things seemed working and all went well but as of now, Windows Store and all Store Apps are CRASHING right after Launching.

Please find the event viewer records below.

    Thanking you again....

  • @Matt Small,

    Just an update.

Few days after posting the eventvwr results, I spoke to a few AnswerDesk staffs and the resolution was to refresh my WIN8.1 because it was obvious that, it was kinda damaged internally.

I did, hesitantly though, as I thought of the pain of loosing all my Desktop installed SoftWare. Still, I decided to go ahead and REFRESH the PC.

After the refresh all went well. The system went back to Windows8, then did some Upgrades to Windows 8.1, all was Smooth.

I reinstalled a few urgently required software like: Adobe c6 Suite(Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Fireworks so on....), Corel Draw, Filezilla, Firefox, Opera, chrome, Wamp. All was Good.

I turned of the PC yesterday (May29/2014), today I turn on the PC, try to Open the Store. I get the same ERROR: "The App din't Start".

Just to mention, I previously thought it was because of Visual Studio Update2, but this time round, I have NOT yet installed Visual Studio Update 2 and I am already getting the ERROR.... This absolutely leaves me puzzled as to what really is the Matter.

Hope you found time to go through the previously posted eventvwr result and please, I will be more than grateful to hear any advice or suggestion.

    Thanx
