Do I need to certificate Windows 8 and Windows 8.1? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have an SSD device that needs to get the Windows certification.

    The question is:

If I get the Windows 8.1 (x86 & x64) certification, do I also need to run it with Windows 8 (x86 & x64) or should the certification for Windows 8.1 is enough?

  • You need to certify for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 both.

  • Hi,

    <tt>At page 20 of</tt><tt>, the below is found:</tt><tt> </tt> ----

    Simplified submissions for Windows 8

In many device areas for Windows 8.1, the device requirements are identical to Windows 8 or possibly a superset where if a device can pass for Windows 8.1 the device would pass for Windows 8.  To simplify your testing efforts we are allowing a simplified testing regimen for the following Product Types. This is primarily designed to allow drivers to be signed for Windows 8 without full retesting.

Product Types where a Certified Windows 8.1 devices/drivers can be resubmitted for 8.0 (details below)

    Distribution Scan Management Enabled Devices

    Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer

    Graphics Tablet

    LAN CS

    Multi-Function Printer

    Pen Digitizer

    Precision Touchpad

    SDIO Controller

    Signature Tablet

    Smart Cards

    Smartcard Reader

    Storage Array

    Storage Controller (Client)

    Storage Spaces Adapter (Client)

    Storage Spaces Drive

    Storage Spaces Enclosure

    Touch Monitor

    USB Hub

    WSD Multi-Function

    WSD Printer

    WSD Scanner

In any of the Product type areas listed, a certified Windows 8.1 driver may receive a Windows 8 signature without complete retesting by proving the INF is well formed for Windows 8 .

    1. Using the HCK for Windows 8.1, create a Windows 8.1 project, and run the full certification suite of tests.
    2. Create a Windows 8 project and only run the Device.DevFund INF test.
    3. Package the results of the projects for submission uploading, using the portal packaging tools.
    4. Reference errata ID 2656 “Windows 8.1 to Windows 8 driver certification downgrade special” in the README folder.

The submission will be processed in the following manner:

    1. Confirm the Windows 8.1 test results.
    2. Confirm the Devfund INF test is passing for Windows 8.
    3. Confirm using the same binary is used in both projects.
