Timesheet Submissions Fail and block correlation EventID 7704 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, we have an issue which occurs frequently on a Project Server deployment of approximately 100 users where when they save OR submit a timesheet, it fails and results in a blocked queue.  Our users are updating their tasks and timesheets throughout the week (though we ask them to delay creating their timesheet until the end of the week).  I'm looking for suggestions on what I can investigate to understand the behavior of why the failed timesheet saves are happening.

2003 Domain, backend dedicated instance SQL 2005 Enterprise x64, Single application server for Project Server 2003 R2 x64

Every time, this can be resolved by having the user (export their timesheet to excel first to save their work) delete then recreate their timesheet.  Obviously this is no good, because it's affecting around 10% of the users.

One suggestion we've had is that the task a user works on may have been updated since adding it to their timesheet.  Surely the queue should be able to recognize and handle this?

Our ULS logs are not much help, a single event records as below.

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Office SharePoint Server
    Event Category: Project Server Queue
    Event ID: 7704

    PWA Site URL: http://projectserver/pwa
    SSP Name: SSP_Project
    PSError: GeneralQueueJobFailed (26000)
A queue job has failed. This is a general error logged by the Project Server Queue everytime a job fails - for effective troubleshooting use this error message with other more specific error messages (if any), the Operations guide (which documents more details about queued jobs) and the trace log (which could provide more detailed context). More information about the failed job follows. GUID of the failed job: 2aa78299-5b6f-498a-a16a-c717b4f42254. Name of the computer that processed this job: --- (to debug further, you need to look at the trace log from this computer). Failed job type: TimesheetUpdate. Failed sub-job type: UpdateTimesheetMessage. Failed sub-job ID: 1. Stage where sub-job failed:  (this is useful when one sub-job has more than one logical processing stages).

I've looked at the following none of which really describe the issue above:

This link below has me wondering if the task update being accepted prior to the timesheet submissions is causing this.

  • Hi,

Have you installed the latest service pack and cumulative update for sharepoint and project server?
I remember seeing similar issues in Project Server 2007 in the past, but many improvements have been made in the different updates.

    Regards,
    Hans
