how to create SQL Azure database? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have created a server and the database and a default Master database is created. I have opened Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2 and I have tried to login using, DNS name, login and passord(Administrator login, password while creating the server), but it didnt work. It is showing the error as "Cannot connect to server". How to solve this?

And I also want to migrate the existing MS SQL database to SQL Azure database.

  • Hi SusanDaniel,

in order to connect to SQL Azure from outside Azure you should configure SQL Azure Firewall, sure when you have provisioned your Server in SQL Azure you have being asked about to define your Firewall rules, if you are trying to access from an IP (using SQL Server Management Studio) that is not allowed in your SQL Azure Firefwall, probably you will not have access to the SQL Azure database.

So first, try to see if your firewall in sQL AZure allow the IP you are using. If there is a rule for allowing any ip (example 1.1.1.1 to 255.255.255.255 rule allow whatever ip to access your SQL Azure server), then the problem should be other, and you have to take some attention to the complete message ("Cannot connect to the server", probably you will have more info or reason).

  • Hi,

When you connect to SQL Azure you must connect to specific database. You can use management portal to create database, or you can connect to master and then create it with TSQL. Look at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/ee336280.aspx for specifics.

    Best regards
