Application hang when not logged in as administrator RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am responsible for an application which runs on a government machine.  Government restrictions dictate the user cannot be an administrator.  Previously, the user had an admin account and could run the application.  Now, the user is a power user and at some point (when the application attempts to connect to a camera through an Intel NIC with a specialized driver) the application hangs indefinitely.  I’ve been through all the settings I’m aware of and modified them to grant power users special privileges but to no avail.

I am a software engineer and have access to the source up to the dll where the application hangs and therefore have no idea which call is explicitly blocking the system.  I've tried pausing the application in debug mode to look at the call stack, but only disassembly is revealed.  I could be off on this one, but I’m relatively convinced the hang has something to do with accessing the NIC.

    Thanks for any help,
