Using ICC printer profile in Win8 vs Win7- new requirements? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello--

I have an ICC printer profile that is installed with our printer driver binaries (UI and UNI plugins, print processor, and LangMon), and it
works fine with Win7 x64, installed and used by local admin user.

On Win8 x64, same driver set (Authenticode signed CAT, but not each DLL) installs OK.

Now, if an application (Paint, Adobe Reader, e.g.) is started normally, printed output is not color-corrected.

If those same apps are started with 'Run as Administrator', printed output is correct.

Similarly, if the Explorer process is restarted (from Task Manager) with Admin privileges,
    applications started normally print correctly.

What could possibly improve this situation?  The profile files aren't signable types, but Color Management
appears to have some kind of objection at runtime.
And yes, I asked, and our customers (app developers) are not keen on requiring 'Run As Administrator' on their end.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!
