European Date Sorting Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a PowerPivot with a data model with data pulled form an OLAP cube. The workbook was created in the US and data fields sort and appear correctly (MM/DD/YYY ).

We have users based in Europe that see the dates in US format (MM/DDYYYY). When viewing through SharePoint 2013, all sorting is correct and values associated with a date are correct.

When someone in Europe opens the workbook in Excel, the date format changes to European format (DD/MM/YYYY) but the sorting is off and the values associated with particular dates is incorrect. Our charts even create data for dates in the future which we have not data for.

If we don't use a data model in Excel and query from the cube directly, the date and data are correct for European users in both SharePoint and after downloading the workbook.

Any ideas what may be happening?

  • Hi Randy,

    Thanks for your question.

According to your description, this can only happen when you use a data model in Excel. In this scenario, I would suggest you to check the language settings, set language to English(United States).

To do this, please go to "Power Pivot --- Settings --- Language --- Language Options".
