Cannot time stamp Excel VBA XLAM Addin signed using SHA256 certificate in Office 2016 RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I sign an Excel VBA XLAM add-in with an SHA-256 certificate, then my attempts to add a time-stamp all quietly fail, and result in signed code that has no time-stamp. I follow the usual instructions for adding registry entries (eg https://stackoverflow.com/questions/38416392/how-do-you-timestamp-a-sha256-certificate-with-a-sha256-signature-to-secure-exce?noredirect=1&lq=1), and have tried all 3 time-stamping URL's listed (SHA-1, SHA-1 with RFC 3161 and SHA-256 with RFC 3161), and they all fail to add a time-stamp to my SHA-256 signed add-in. This has worked fine for me before using SHA-1 certificates.

    I am using Office 2016: Excel 2016 MSO (16.0.4738.1000) 32 bit.

I note that Solver.xlam in Office 2016 is signed using a SHA-1 certificate, which suggests SHA-256 is not supported yet for XLAM files.

Does Excel 2016 support signing and time-stamping of VBA add-ins using SHA-256 certificates?
