Possibilities for Metro improvements RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello,

I've downloaded the Developer preview, I am using a laptop computer with an external mouse.
I think the following options should be added to the Metro start menu, in order to make it better:

    1. Scalability of live-tiles. This is both a useability feature as well as a personalisation feature. It could reduce the amount of scrolling on a desktop PC and make the metro UI more accessible to people running a wide variety of applications.

    2. Customization of background and individual livetile color. I would like a black and white interface, but I can't have that.

    3. Use the mouse cursor as if it were a fingertip. Dragging the start menu similar to touch input would greatly improve useability and 'fun'.

    4. When moving the cursor to the left, a list of all running applications should 'pop up' instead of just the previous application. Similar to what the
    taskbar is now.

I realize that the developer preview is not the final build. We might see things that are still under development. But, as of this point the Metro UI is merely a nice 'gadget'. Powerusers are not going to use or love it in it's current state. On the other hand, it has great potential.

  • +1 to treating the mouse as  fingertip. I installed the preview inside of a VM and was very disappointed that I had to drag scroll bars all over the place.
