Cannot enable printers for windowsservercore container RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an app which use windows printing api and i am getting "no printer" error. so i tried the following:

    Install-WindowsFeature Print-Server Set-Service spooler -StartupType Automatic Start-Service spooler Get-Service spooler Get-Printer

    and i got this error:

Get-Printer : The spooler service is not reachable. Ensure the spooler service is running.

i found out get-printer cmdlet actually crashes spooler service.

is this a bug of windowsservercore?

  • I can reproduce this.

The service isn't crashing per-se, there's ancient code inside that's calling the ExitProcess API when specific error cases are hit. Still working to get spooler trace logs to determine what's going on exactly.

Might be worth reporting via the Server Insider program if you're in that (and if they have a channel for Server Core feedback).
