User does not have the required permissions in Visual Studio only. RRS feed

  • I have added a Windows Accounts as a global admin of an Office 365 Active Directory. Using this account I can successfully create and manage applications using the Azure portal. When I try to use the same account to add an application in VS2015 (by setting the authentication to the AD domain for instance I get an error that the "user doesn't have the required permissions to access the domain".

    I'm pretty sure this is a catch all error and not the really problem as the user definitely does have the permissions. Has anyone else run into this and found a way round it?

    The Windows Accounts as global admin in Office 365 AD, is also global admin in Azure AD?

  • Hi. The account is a global admin and can perform all the operations when using the Azure portal. It is only when using the account from VS2015 that I get the message.

    I should have mentioned as well that this problem is only happening for the O365 AD. VS is working if I am using the default Azure AD domain.

  • Hi. I don't think this is specific to O365 rather any non default Active Directory. I'll leave this open whilst I do a bit more investigation.

  • Are you able resolve the issue? I am facing the same problem while creating the web app in VS2015 with work and school account. The user I am using is a global admin in the AD I have created in Azure AD B2C. I have tried with other users with limited administrator (given all the rights) but still doesnt work. Please reply if anybody able to resolve this.
