Unexpected error on server associating the workflow

    Question

  • Hello everyone,

I created a workflow in SharePoint to a library in my subsite.

At first "publish" of the workflow, it worked perfectly, but, after that, I can't publish it... i get this error:

    • Unexpected error on server associating the workflow

I've search the internet to find the solution for this, and I a lot of, but anyone worked.

The solutions that I found is:

    Restart IIS (it doesn't work)

Restart the server (it doesn't work)

Clear the SharePoint Designer cache (it doesn't work)

    Replace the web.config in <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="51200" /> with <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="51200" executionTimeout="300" /> after run PowerShell commands (it doesn't work)

Does anyone know how can I resolve it ?

    Thanks in advance!

    Best Regards

  • Try removing the last few changes that you made to the workflow before you started getting the error.  If you look at the top of the dialog you will notice that the association error is not the only error that you got.  It also says there was an error compiling the workflow.  That normally indicates that something in the flow of the workflow is not working as expected.  Its probably associated with the last few changes that you made.  Remove them and see if the older version still compiles and associates.

  • I'm getting this exact issue with only a on-liner workflow.  It seems like it times out. It will eventually publish if I keep pushing it over and over.  Was working 2nd time on a much more complex one yesterday.  Today, a one liner 2010 workflow, and it continually times out.  It will publish... I just forgot a check-box and now I'm grinding to get it through.

I'm on Win10 Pro.  I could not find a web.config in the path people are saying.  Where is it?
