Failed to create a new disk on the remote Hyper-V 2012 host via hyper-v manager RRS feed

  • Question

  • Use Hyper-V Manager (6.1.7601.17514) to manage the remote Hyper-V 2012 Server Core host.
It worked well at the beginning. However, suddenly failed to create the new disk on the host.

When try to create the new disk, there is an error such as:

The server encountered an error trying to create the virtual hard disk.
    Creating the disk at location
    'C:\...\....\newdisk.vhd' failed.

However, sometime the disk created on the host checking via 'dir' on the host side, when the error occurred.

Is it a Hyper-V Manager problem? How can i resolve it?

    Thanks!

    Best wishes,

  • The same hyper-v manager manage an other Hyper-V host. it is running Hyper-V Server Core 2008 R2,

There is no problem to create a new disk to the Hyper-V Server Core 2008 R2 host.

  • Hi shwang,

How did you upgrade the Hyper-V Manager? I have the 6.1.7600.16385 version on my win7 32bit, but cannot find anywhere to upgrade/download the newer version. Thank you.

  • If anyone is still looking at this one? I am getting the exact same error with both versions of Hyper-V Manager listed above. Tried from a Win7 machine and a Win8 machine with the built in Hyper-V.
