Deploy to Azure simply by right clicking project? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Howdy- I have an existing asp.net web application w/ 2 databases (Local Db) on my local machine. I know I can right click the project and click 'Publish' with the option to publish to azure. Will I be walked thru the steps or do I need to take other steps first to deploy. I see tutorials to build an app on Azure, but not one that is already built. (using VS 2013)   Thanks.

  • Hi,

First, which azure service do you choose, Azure website or Azure cloud service? This article gives us how to deploy our application to Azure website, and this article shows us how to deploy to cloud service, hope this helps.

In addition, we also need to take into the database, as far as I know, the first choice is to migrate to Azure SQL database, refer to https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/azure/ee730904.aspx for more details, we could also create a SQL database service, see more at: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/documentation/articles/virtual-machines-provision-sql-server/, if you choose Azure website, you could also consider Hybrid Connections.

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks Jambor...  I have seen these tutorials...But they require you to build an application on Azure... My application is already built in my machine w/ 2 Local Db.I'm just trying to deploy a web forms app that is already built... want to deploy to Azure Websites- not cloud services. Also Local Db... Do I need to use the tutorial application and then just replace the files with my own? I may be having a brain cramp. Just need to get started with an app that is already built. Hope that makes sense.

Using VS 2013 update 4, Local Db,  Windows 8.1

    Thanks!  Jeff
