RDLC RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to create a report where the rdlc doesn't have any DataSets defined in the rdlc but the report is populated with data when the report is ran.

    So in the example below currently the only way I am able to get this to work is if I have ReportData as a DataSet in the rdlc.

    reportViewer.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(

    new Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportDataSource( "ReportData", Data.Tables[0] ) );

    this.reportViewer.LocalReport.DisplayName = _reportName;

    this.reportViewer.LocalReport.ReportEmbeddedResource = _reportName;

    this.reportViewer.RefreshReport();

  • If the RDLC does not have any DataSets then you can only display very limited information in your report, such as values of report parameters. Depending on your scenario, you can consider dynamically generating a report definition (RDLC) with DataSets defined in it. RDLC format is practically the same as RDL, and is documented here: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/reporting/techinfo/rdlspec.asp
