  • Hello,

    Please have a look at Back Up and Restore of System Databases (SQL Server) => Resource

    There is no need to backup the ResourceDB, because it contains only shared code, no data.

  • as every one said, the resource database is an hidden database where you cannot take the backup of the database how eve you can take the file level backup where the resource database level exists-

    whee the resource DB file resides based on the SQL version-

    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.<instance_name>\MSSQL\Binn\ -2012

    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.<instance_name>\MSSQL\Binn\ --2008R2

    <drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\  -->2005

    but you can attach the resource DB files to your SSMS(fyi..) but I didn't tried for the backup.
