Unable to record new macro - Windows 10 RRS feed

  • Question

  • So i just updated to windows 10, and now i can't create new macros in excel - I could before with no problems on windows 8.
I have tried excel 2010 (my old version), then i bought excel 2016 - no difference.

    Running 64 bit windows 10, 64 bit excel 2010 now and i still can't.

The actual problem is that when i try to record under developer i get "unable to record"
If i try to make one in VBA, i got "out of memory".

Is there a button or something like macro security i have forgotten?

    Thank you for time.

  • When you start recording a macro, what is entered in "Store macro in:"?

  • Thank you for your time!

I have tried all of them, this workbook, new workbook and personal workbook, same error.

  • I would advise to completely reinstall Office.

  • I already tried that, reinstall, completely uinstall with Microsoft own software, install again - yet the problem still occurs.

  • Pity!. Hmm. Next try. Can you add a new user to your computer, logon as that user and then try recording? Does it work or does it fail?

  • Well as of now i only have my own user (the administrator), i doubt i find the problem here - And the solution can not be that i need to logon another user to do the macro :O

  • I ask this because if you can record a macro when logged in as another user, there is a problem with your profile on this computer. If another user cannot record macros either, the problem is likely the Office installation. If the former, a solution may be to add a new admin account and remove your current admin account (of course after creating a proper backup!!)

  • My bad, that makes perfect sense, but it didnt do any difference. Definitely something wrong with windows or excel, or them both together.

  • I'll report the issue to the Excel team.

  • Well sure, but without any further information about my computer(laptop), it's current hardware and software can they really figure something out?

What can i do from here?
A though i had about the problem, is that every time i open VBA, it opens 3 new projects.
Every time i close it, reopen VBA, it opens project 4.. project 5.. etc.  - This doesnt seem normal that it opens these new projects every time?

  • No that is abnormal behaviour. What happens if you start Excel in safe mode (hold down the control key while Excel starts)?

Are you using any add-ins (either COM or Excel add-ins)?

  • Still unable in safe mode.

No Excel Add-ins, shouldn't "Analysis ToolPak - VBA" be active?
    No COM Add-ins active.
