One Data Lake Store - two subscriptions and two analytics accounts

    Question

  • I have the following case: a client has one Data Lake Store (in subscription A). This has one Data Lake Analytics Account (in subscription A). They also want this data lake to be storage for another subscription with it's onw Data Lake Analytics Account.

How do you set up access for Data Lake Analytics Account B to be able to create databases/register assemblies for the data lake store in subscription A?

Right now you can only share unstructured data across the two ADLA accounts if they both chose the same ADLS account as their primary storage account.

So in that case, you would ask the people to create their own database copies. Each database will be stored in the shared ADLS account, but each ADLA account can only see its own databases.

We are also working on letting you access database objects across ADLA accounts that share the same ADLS account by the time we release later this year. In that case, you can use an assembly that is registered in the other ADLA account.

Both approaches (current and future) assume that your user's security principal gives him or her access to the database/file system.

UPDATE: Accessing database objects across ADLA account boundaries has been enabled. See the release notes for details.
