Hardware Virtualization RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi all,

    I have a windows server 2012 R2 and i have installed a virtual machine VM1 using Hyper-V manager.

Now, I have imported another virtual machine VM2(windows server 2012 R2 Data center) inside this virtual machine VM1 using Oracle Virtual Box.

however, I cannot execute machine VM2 imported on VirtualBox because Hyper-V uses the virtualization extensions of the physical processor and we cannot share them with other virtualization software like VirtualBox.

Does anyone know if there is an additional feature on Hyper-V to enable hardware virtualization among Hyper-V and VirtualBox ?

    Thank you,

    Best Regards.

  • The Nested Virtualization feature enables your scenario.

It is only available in preview at the moment with Windows 10.

Until then virtualization engines are mutually exclusive.  Today, you need to set up a boot option without Hyper-V to run other virtualization engines.  And event then you can still only run one virtualization engine at a time.
