Cannot find mscorlib or caspol 3.5 framework / Vista RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

I've been trying to find mscorcfg.mmc and/or caspol.exe with no luck.  I've downloaded the win SDK and installed and attempted to see if anything is missing from the VS2008 install but still cannot locate either tool.  At this point I'm willing to admit that Vista is just plain smarter than me.

Any suggestions on how to get either of these available?

BTW I've also got VS2010b2 installed

  • Hi John80218,

Welcome to MSDN forums. And thank you for your post.

The .NET Framework Configuration Tool (Mscorcfg.msc) and Code Access Security Policy Tool (Caspol.exe) come with the .NET Framework 2.0 SDK. The SDK is installed with Visual Studio, so development machines always have it.
However, this version of the .NET Framework SDK has been superceded by the Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5.
When I go to the link of Windows SDK for Windows Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5, I found:

"Installing the newly released Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 instead of this release is recommended. If you do go ahead and install this SDK after VS2008 SP1, please ensure the patch described in Knowledge Base 974479 is applied."

Thus, I think that you could directly install Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

Hope this helps. If you have any concern, please feel free to let me know.

    Best regards,
    Yichun Chen
