Quad core or dual core RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am looking at installing Sharepoint 2010 and read that the min HW requirement is a quad core machine. Is this true or installation on a dual core will also work?

instalaltion on a dual core will also work. but it is recomendet to have a quad core. for developer environments a dual core is enough. but for a productive environment (depending on the size) you need a quad core or multiple quad cores.

  • I have a Quad Core + 8GB which has Server 2008 R2 installed with Hyper-V enabled. I have SP2010 VM for 6.5GB running without any problems. I can see the great performance improvement in hosting and using a VM in Quad Core vs Dual Core. Quad Core wins!

  • There's no code check or blockers inside SharePoint 2010 for the core numbers, but considering the performance, quad core (or above) is always recommended for production. That is why we now put quad core in the article and removed the frequency one.
