Restore subscriber database in another server, keeping merge replication RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a problem connections(problems at the phisical level) with some subscriber databases, so we thought to backup the subscriber database and restore it to some server that can connect with the publisher and still been known as a valid subscriber. But during the restore dhe database isn't anymore a valid subscriber. Can someone help or suggest a better solution.

  • did you use the keep_replication switch when you restored. Did you do a no-sync, subscription?  This will allow new changes from teh publisher to synchronize with the restored subscriber. Changes which occured in the subscriber between syncs will be lost, but changes which occur after the sync will be sent to the publisher.

So in effect you can only get new changes from teh publisher.  You can use sp_addtabletocontents to push data from your subscriber to your publisher.

  • Did you alread use sp_addsubscription from you publisher to point to new subscription?

if the restored database is alread synchronized, you just can use sp_addsubscription with sync_type='none'
