Inbound 5010 997 Issue with ST03 RRS feed

Answers

  • JSlatton,

The information I have is that 5010 997 is not supported in BizTalk 2010; only 5010 999 and 4010 997. However, we will ask to have it updated in the next cumulative update for BizTalk 2010. This probably won't be out until after 2013.

  • Can you post the original 997 EDI? (de-identified if necessary). Are you sure this isn't a 999?

FWIW, the 5010 997 contains the element ST03. The 4010 997 does not. Correct schema?

  • Thanks Chris.  Yes, I'm sure it is a 997 (I was a little suprised myself). The schema conforms to the 5010 997 and contains ST03.  Here is the original EDI:

    ISA*00*          *00*          *ZZ*ABCDEFGAID     *ZZ*000604994      *120911*2237*^*00501*000097120*0*P*:~
    TA1*000000001*120911*2124*A*000~
    GS*FA*ABCDEFGAID*000604994*20120911*223756*1*X*005010~
    ST*997*0001*005010~
    AK1*HC*1*005010X222A1~
    AK2*837*0001*005010X222A1~
    AK5*A~
    AK9*A*1*1*1~
    SE*6*0001~
    GE*1*1~
    IEA*1*000097120~

One thing I did notice is that Microsoft.BizTalk.Edi.BaseArtifacts.X12_997Schema looks like the 4010 version of the 997 and it does not have the ST03 element.  I had assumed one of the CUs would have corrected this.

  • Yes - I think this is the issue. The 4010 997 schema is parsing the set. Sorry - I haven't kept up with the latest CUs, hopefully someone else can jump in.

If there is no 5010 997 available then I would just try to add another element to the 4010 schema for ST03. Just dupe ST02 but maxlength=35 (and optional)

Of course (as you hinted) - you should really be getting a 999 for HIPAA... but I am guessing that is someone else's battle.

  • Thanks Chris.  Unfortunately, the 997 is contained within Microsoft.BizTalk.Edi.BaseArtifacts so I have no ability to modify the schema.  I attempted to use the 5010 997 schema directly but the edi receive pipeline automatically recognizes and attempts to process the inbound file using Microsoft.BizTalk.Edi.BaseArtifacts.X12_997Schema as part of the ack process.

Of course I have no control over the type of ack sent by the trading partner and HIPAA does not mandate any particular type of ack.  It was CMS that chose to move exclusively to the 999 so we have trading partners using other ack types.  Interestingly, even though the 997 is an allowable EDI transaction type, it is not even available for selection in BizTalk as an allowable or excludable transaction type in the party configurations.  I assume allowing such would have created issues with the ack processing used by BizTalk.  Hopefully someone else has experienced this situation and found a resolution.

  • Hi JSlatton,

Do you have latest CU installed on your BizTalk. Can you confirm what latest cu you are having.

  • JSlatton,

Do you have some trading partners using 5010-compliant 997s and some using 4010-compliant 997s?

Do you have any trading partners attempting to send you both?

  • Hi Randy,

I only have trading partners sending me 5010-compliant 997s.  We no longer have any trading partners using the 4010 version.

    Thanks!
